Patroling is a part of the security guard duty, while on patrol you should frequently inspect the workplace for making sure the site is 100% secure from any type of danger.
You should be aware of the things that are happening within the site through observation. awareness of the surroundings helps you to identify the hazards. The security guard should always be looking for things that can harm people’s life.

The hazards are categorized according to the method in which they could cause harm. the Stander categories of hazards teach in global occupational health and safety training are as follow;

The OHS manager is responsible for keeping people safe and secure in the workplace, however, the security guard always should inspect the workplace to identify the hazards and report them. The key contributor to the OHS manager is the security guards.
Methods of hazard identification
The security guard or safety officer can use a variety of methods themself to identify the hazardous material in the workplace. Here are some common methods that need to be used
- Walking around for visual inspection
- Reviewing incident and near-miss records
- Work task analysis
- Reading material safety data sheets (MSDS) and manufacturer’s instructions
- Knowledge of legal requirements.
